Information about the winemaker
The Bodega Hijos de Alberto looks back on 350 years of history in Rueda. For 65 years, it has been one of the leading wineries in terms of quality. It is not without reason that a member of the family was elected president of the D.O. (Denominación de Origen). The wine cellar is located in an old Dominican monastery from the 17th century. Under the cellar is the so-called gallery, a labyrinth that was originally used as a cellar by the villagers. Then, piece by piece, it was bought by the winery and used for wine production. One must not forget that there were no refrigerators at that time. Wine history is tangible here.
"Vinos Rancios" is the traditional name of the sherry-like drink from the heart of Spain. The wine produced here from the Verdejo grape is put in glass ballos in the courtyard of the winery in January after vinification and left to stand for 12 months. The sun and oxygen do their bit to change the wine. After that, the "Vinos Rancios" is put into wooden barrels for another 3 years, where it matures according to the principle of the "solera" method. The result is a wonderful aperitif or degustation wine that goes well with meat pâtés, foie gras or cheese. It can also be used to refine a porcini mushroom cream.
